It doesn't hurt to start your dream, my friend. Do you have some strips made? If not a comic, perhaps you can make it a webcomic if you haven't do so or thought of it already. Then everything goes from there.

I like the background and the way you contrast the colors. I would like to see more of that. I would practice more on the hands though, it kinda throws me off around the arms.

I think drawing people you meet is a great idea for an artist. Its great practice like this that gets you where the money counts on commissioned portraits.
Even if you don't do portraits for people, its still always good to practice on faces.
